ITP does not discrimate when it strikes its next victim. It affects the young and old, rich and poor all over the world. Dealing with this blood disorder is no easy task. The fear and frustration of not knowing where the roller coaster will take us next can be daunting.

This blog is for ITPers to express thoughts, feelings and lessons learned during their ride. Send your post to We want to hear from you.

What are You Doing for ITP Awareness Month?

September is ITP Awareness Month!!!

We want to let the whole world know about this terrible blood disorder!!

What is going on in your part of the world?

In the UK, the ITP Support Association is posting "ITP Facts" every day. These are great bits of information you can share with your family and friends via Facebook. Most non-ITPers don't understand our trials and tribulations we face everyday. The "ITP Facts" can help clear up some of the mystery.

They also have daily POP (Pictures of Purple) posts that were sent in from ITPers from around the world. Thanks to Anthony Heard, we can all share this great information every day this month!

In the US, The Platelet Disorder Support Association (PDSA) is sponsoring all kinds of activities including "Pump It Up For Platelets" walks/runs and the "Sport Purple For Platelets Day" (Sept. 27).

The PDSA has suggestions on ways you help with fundraising as well with their 50 Ways to Fundraise fact sheet.

There are many folks who have activities planned for this month. Please let us know what you are doing by commenting below. Who knows, you may have some surprise visitors attending your event!!!

  1. I am donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of my book, "Heartaches and Miracles" to the PDSA for the month of September. It is available in both print and ebook editions.

  2. FromGenevieve Kilianek:
I am excited to host an ice cream fundraiser at Foxy's ice cream in Yorkville, Illinois this Thursday. I am going to try to sell 50/50 raffle tickets and car wash tickets while I am there as well!! Then on Sept. 28th Kim, Trish, and I have teamed up to host the Party for Platelets at Scoreboards in Oswego, Ill. It is going to be so much fun!! Here is my link below to show you what the virtual walk page looks like. If any of you would like to donate, that would be awesome but if you want to donate, it would be cool if you registered and had your own page, so family and friends could donate in honor of you!!

  3. Last year i painted a t-shirt and uploaded few pics of my son but this year "too busy with my domestic chores" and my son is five years old ITPier stays at home with me.I have to act like a sibling to him some times playing with him like a child.

  4. We tie dyed shirts purple & have a Sportin Purple tailgate style party before the homecoming game...our team color is purple also so for my 10 year old it looks like whole K-12 (700-800 kids total) is Sportin Purple! We will have a party this year as well!

  5. Thank you, Arman and Melanie. I know there's more of you out there!!!
